A South African Safari: Finding Luxury in the Wild, Even with Parkinson’s
Embarking on our first journey solely for pleasure, Kathy and I ventured to South Africa to visit our son Andy and his wife. Despite grappling with Parkinson’s Disease, we were determined to embrace every moment of this adventure.
Our destination? The Botlierskop Game Reserve, just outside Mossel Bay, where Luxury Executive Suites awaited us. From the moment we arrived, surrounded by nature’s splendor, we knew this trip would be unlike any other.
For us, accustomed to travel for work and necessity rather than leisure, the experience was transformative. Each morning, as we indulged in lavish breakfasts, we relished the opportunity to simply enjoy the moment, despite the challenges Parkinson’s brought.
Evenings brought another delight: savoring succulent filets with mushroom sauce and bone marrow under the vast African sky. The flavors lingered, as did the memories of our encounters with wildlife during exhilarating safaris.
Navigating the rugged terrain with Parkinson’s presented its challenges, but with determination and the support of each other, we discovered a newfound appreciation for life’s adventures. As we returned to our suite each night, the glow of the African sunset mirrored the resilience within us.
Our South African safari was more than a vacation; it was a testament to the power of perseverance and the joy found in embracing life’s moments, no matter the obstacles. And amidst it all, I found solace in two amazing massages and the warmth of a pool, a gentle reminder that even with Parkinson’s, life’s simple pleasures await.
